It isn't a matter of being able to ssh or not. I can remotely login via ssh with local credentials created within unisphere, just not using my LDAP account.
The need is to be able to transfer documents between users home directories.

Data movers are designed on purpose to NOT have any remote login facilities like a ssh daemon.
What would you need that for ?

If you can remotely login then it is the control station and NOT the data mover.
What is possible on the data mover to use scp or sFTP or FTP/s to transfer data – but NO interactive login shell.
See the “Using FTP, TFTP, and SFTP on VNX “ manual for details on how to set that up.
What you are probably missing is the LDAP setup on the data mover.
