Control stations - VNX 7500

i understand to use full adv of FAST VP we have to have mixture drive types in pool.

yes NFS shares , so if we want to use few nfs shares do we need control stations to be configured ?

curios, what kind of monitoring monitoring & reporting we do with this control stations ( i really waiting this to be impleted in my env )

how about pool Raid type , let say we have 10 SAS and 10 Flash  so all we need to create pool of raid 5 type and include these 10 disks into pool then pool will take care of protection or we have to create a raid 5 ( 2 for SAS and 2 for flash ) out of these  disks and include those in a pool ?  

The control station needs to be configured in any case

You just create the pool and add drives to it – the creation of the internal (private) raidgroups is automatic

If you bought a VNX Unified model with a control station then the control station needs to be configured no matter whether you are using file (NAS) or just for block (SAN)

I will do some of the monitoring & reporting and also be used for administration

Yes you can mix different drive type in a pool.

Currently they would have to be the same RAID level – but if you wait a week or two then this will change with a new OS version

Yes RG’s can span DAE’s

In fact if you use pools you no longer worry about that.

I suggest to look at some older threads here and some while papers to get to know the difference between traditional raidgroups and pool based provisioning

Control stations are for monitoring and managing the file components of the VNX.

Here we have to know clearly what application you will be running on the VNX and also how this will be going to be used.

The flash drives came may be intended for FAST Cache or it may be used in pools if you want to take advantage of FAST VP. If you will be implementing FAST VP, you must be going for a mixture of the drive types to take the full advantage (should have enough number of drives in each type also).

Let me know one thing, by NFS content you mean NFS shares ?

Configuring RAID Groups again, if you are going for traditional RG and LUNs this again depends on the application here.

one last question: how the hot spare  is it one of the disk in that storage pool  as well ?  or do we need to specifiy somewhere to use one kind of disk a hot spare

it's not part of the pool, it's a raid group type hot spare

A hot spare is always global, so it's a hot spare for failed pool disks as well as failed regular raid group disks.
