How to do a performance benchmark for VNXe 3200
Hello everyone,
as the VNXe 3200 is my first EMC storage I´m asking me what´s the best way to do a performance benchmark for it.
Before the storage goes productive I want to test some Pool Configurations.
Is there a recommended tool for that?
Thanks in advance!

You can benchmark using Iometer, which is reliable, highly configurable and proven.
If you have esxi/vsphere the I/O Analyzer fling (which uses iometer) is pretty cool.

Thanks for the information.
I use Iometer already. But are there any specific settings I should do for the tests?

It really depends on your goal, as there is a plethora of info regarding performance measurement.
You could choose to simulate your production workloads or you could choose to simulate a range of workload types;
small block random r/w, large block sequential write etc.
It's an older publication, but see the test tool methodology in the attached reference document (Page 16 onwards)

Perhaps go for a mix, run the profiles for decent times and keep the effects of cache in mind when analyzing your results.

As long as I know the VNXe3200 has no internal cache to mention, right?
So I guess you mean FAST Cache Feature? I don´t use that.

Hello Mark,
Please refer to the following thread to benchmark through IOmeter.

mark846,
Can you post your IOMeter results when you get them along with your 3200 config? I'm looking to replace my 3100 soon and real world performance numbers would be helpful.
Best Regards,

The attached 'best practices for performance' document can help for VNXe 3200

Sure, I will do that.
Do you recommend to use the four configuration disks in the storage pool or is the performance impact too high in a productive environment?

mark846,
Were you able to do any IOmeter performance testing on the 3200 yet?
Best Regards.
