Did the VNX Installation Assistant for File/Unified throw an error?

"If your system shipped with a VNX Installation Toolbox (VIT) CD, use the Unisphere Storage

System Initialization Utility located on the CD to initialize your system."

Did you run the Unisphere Storage System Initialization Utility prior to runnning VNX Installation Assistant for File/Unified?  The initialization utility is used to assign the IPs to the block SPs.

Have you resolved the issue ?

If not, just cross verify the cabling from

https://mydocs.emc.com/VNX/requestMyDoc.jsp > install VNX > VNX 5300 + Unified .

Once the cabling is corrected, you will have to continue with the VIA.

What was the fix for this.  I am in the same boat.  Triple checked the cabling and I just cannot get past the SSH issue.

Severity: Error
Message: Network failure.
Full Description: Failed to make the SSH connection. The network connection might have been broken.
Recommended action: Make sure the network connection between your client and the VNX is proper and try again.

Hi

Yes thats understandable ☺

In a VNX Unified system only the control station has an Ethernet connection to your admin network.

The SP’s are connected to the CS and DM through an internal network (builtin switches).

In addition to its own IP address the CS will also listen to the SPA/SPB address and forward it to the SP via the internal network.

If you know IP networking and look closely at the CS IP config will see it.

That was done to simplify installation and decrease the number of network ports needed.

It also has the effect that the CS can always talk to the DM/SP via the internal network even if the ext. admin network isn’t working.
