Initiators hosts recognized as "UNKNOWN"
Hi,
I'm really fresh into EMC.
I have a VNX 5500 and it's connect by fiber to 2 SQL servers (win 2012) installed with Powerpath.
I have no idea why but the initiators are recognized as "UNKNOWN".
How do I start debugging this?
Thanks!
Gil

Hi,
Thanks for the reply - MOVED
This is what I get. Those 4 hosts are 2 servers of mine with 2 fibers on them.
How do I register them if I cant tell from which server did they originate?
Thanks,
Gil

First of all, I would recommend you moving this discussion to VNX Support Forum ( Actions > move ).
Are you referring to the entry in connectivity status / initiators ? Have you registered the initiators ?
Please post a snap if possible.

Depending on your requirement on volume presentation, you may create storage group and add the hosts and LUNs to them.
Now all the initiators are having value in registered column as yes ?

You can register the WWNs which are to be registered by clicking the register button and entering the details.
You can use some HBA utilities or OS commands in the host to see the WWN and accordingly register from the storage side.
Seems your hosts are directly connected with the storage. In that case you can trace out the host connected to the specific storage port.

Might installing Unisphere Agent solve all of this?

Yes, Unisphere agent will register the new initiators automatically.
Are your hosts windows ?

Yes all show up as Registered.
I already have a storage group setup.
Just need to add them but I simply cant see any of them (the hosts) I'm afraid.

Yes they are.
Ive registered the hosts as suggested (using the fiber software to discover the WWN address).
They still show up with exclamation mark though ("this initiator is not fully connected to the storage system").
I see that under "Storage Group" it says "~management". May I ask how do I move it to SQL?
Because I wasnt able to find those hosts under "Host List" yet.... :-\
Thanks,
Gil

That depends on your requirement. If you are planning to share the disks across hosts you can have all the hosts put in the same Storage Group. Otherwise you may create separate SGs.
Aren't you able to see the hosts in the hosts list ?

Afraid not.
They are stuck under "~maangement group"

I might as well add that I do see those hosts only they are under "~management group" and I cant take them out of there...

Nothing there I'm afraid.
Sadly in the past 4 hours all I got from EMC is "we need more details".

In engineering mode go like you're going to connect a new host to ~management... then select the Advanced button while picking the hosts in question.. make sure all the paths are currently connected...
Can also try CLI:
naviseccli -h SP_IP storagegroup -connecthost -host -gname

That's exactly what I was trying to do.
I was unable to disconnect the Hosts from ~management.
Even in engineering mode.
