IOPS Calculation
Hi All,
Need your inputs in order to calculate total no. of IOPS a raid group could handle on VNX5300. I've configured following raid groups on our VNX5300:-
1) Raid Group 1 with Raid Level5 and consists of 10 x 600GB SAS 15k rpm disks
2) Raid Group 2 with Raid Level 1_0 and consists of 6 x 600GB SAS 15k rpm disks
3) Raid Group 3 with Raid Level5 and consists of 4 x 600GB SAS 15k rpm disks
The application to be put on VNX5300 are MS Exchange 2007 and ERP running on vSphere ESXi 4.0.
Appreciate all your valuable inputs.
regards,
Samir

EMC CLARiiON Best Practices for Performance and Availability Release 30.0 in the last chapter describes how to size IOPS-wise. It includes the calculations and examples for the RAID levels. Best Practices is available for download from Powerlink.
For the SAS drives, substitute the IOPS found for the appropriate speed Fibre Channel drive in Best Practices table data for IOPS/drive. For example use the 10K rpm FC drive IOPS for the 10K rpm SAS drive IOPS.
