Logging into Unisphere as root - doesn't see block items (issue with certs)?

Thanks, it doesn't exactly seem to be the same thing. If I log in Unisphere as root (scope:local)  I get the message:          An error occurred during the login process. This may be because:       1) Certificates are not accepted. 2) Both storage processors or the contraol station are not accessible. 3) you have logged in to a File or Block System using a local user account not defined on both the File and Block systems. File SW Ver: 7.0.40-1

What you are seeing is normal behavior. When you log in to Unisphere with a local user account (in this case, root is local to the CS), it is considered degraded mode in that you cannot manage any Block things, since the user account is local only to the CS. You can do, however, what you mentioned, edit Control Station properties as root. Otherwise, there is little need to log in as root user in Unisphere.

Yes. Supposedly, the Best Practice approach for using Local Users is to create the same user on both the File and Block sides, along with the same password, and the same Roles. So actually, you could create a “root” user on the Block side using Local Users for Block, and give it the same password. Then, you log into either CS or SP IP Scope Local, and you can do management of either File or Block using the local user account.
