Presenting LUNs to the same host across two different SP for performance benefits
Hi,
Suppose in my VNX5500 and 5300, I have created 2x LUNs from my RAID group owned by either SPA and SPB as follows:
LUN101 - SP A
LUN201 - SP B
Then presented to my applications (like Microsoft Exchange Server and VMware ESXi server), does that means the load will be distributed Active/Active on both SP A and SP B ?
My understanding is that VNX can present Active/Active path with the default implementation.
Can anyone please clarify if this is the correct setup for performance gain or not ?

Cool, thanks M, I thought that I will need to use EMC PowerPath in order to do this.
So in this case VNX from 5300 and above series can support Active/Active LUN presentation.

Yes, when connected properly by the client it wil use the SP which owns the LUN. So in this case load to LUN101 will go through SP A and load to LUN201 will go through SP B.

You need Powerpath or other MPIO software to load balance at the client (server) side. For example to load balance over two NICS or HBA's.

Powerpath would be my choice in this case just for a say.

See the host connectivity guide for your OS on iLab
It doesn’t necessarily have to be PowerPath – native OS MPIO works fine as well these days

many thanks forthe assistance people, so in my working environment, it is always better to assign new Pool and RAID Group manually to a SPA or SPB rather than leave it as Auto.
