Migrating CIFS data from a raid group to a storage pool

Hi

I have a VNX5300 unified system running latest code. The previous engineers has setup a lot a RAID groups with 5 disks here and 3 disks there etc etc. I amd trying to migrate the data to storage pools. I bought a bunch of disks and started migrating normal block data to the new storage pool.

I now need to migrate the CIFS shares to another pool so I can resolve the RAID group and add the disks to my storage pool so I can benefit of the performance of all the disk spindles.

Now when I try to migrate the data by right click and migrate I get a error that this action in prohibited and the file system will corrupt if I migrate it.

Please help me what is the easiest way to migrate CIFS shares from a RAID group to a Storage Pool without downtime,

PLEASE HELP I AM DESPRATE

you can't use LUN Migrator to move LUN presented to File (datamovers). You will need to build new LUNs from storage pool, present them to File OE and the migrate the data (yes there will be downtime for the options listed below).

1) if you are license use VNX Replicator (basically loopback replication)

2) server_archive command, you will copy the data from one file system to the other, schedule downtime and unmount the old one and mount the new one to the same mount point

3) use external host to copy the data between old and new file system (using tools like emcopy, robocopy ..etc)

The easiest way is to use VNX Replicator but you need to be licensed.

yes, you still need downtime but a very brief one (5-10 min)

Thanks.

This is one of those clients that cannot afford 5 min downtime.

Problem is, it is 10 x 2tb LUNS. This will take time to copy and we cannot afford it.

So if I use VNX replicator do I still need downtime?

Hello

I need your help on something else. Hope you can assist.

I have a new VNX5200 and a hyper v 2008r2 cluster.

I have installed the vnx 100% cool. But when i go to the hyper v cluster load the server client on the hosts but no luck. Its just not auto registering on the vnx.

Do you have a clue.

I have updated the drivers the firmware and win updates on the server. Nothing. I have direct connected the srv to the storage to eliminate the switch nothing.

There is still a eva connected to the cluster that has all the prod data on.

Please help if you have a clue.

Thanks

did you complete the zoning ? Regardless if you install Unisphere agent or use server utility, the host WWN should show up under Initiators in Unisphere. If they do not you need to check your zoning, make sure WWN are logged-in to the switch ..etc.
