Same disks, different user capacities
Hi there,
I have one VNXe with 12 600GB SAS disks. All disks are identical.
In Unisphere, all disks show a 536GB raw capacity, but the user capacity is not the same for all.
The first 6 disks have a user capacity is 488.587, while the other 6 have and 536.777.
Is this normal?
Thanks.

Why do I see different a disk size for first five disks in a VNXe DPE?

Hi,
The first 6 disks host the OS of VNXE (othername flair).
It is localised on HIDDEN LUN and we can make anything on this
It's a little bit greedy .... (536.777 - 488.587) X 5 = 240.95 GB
Hope this help

Hi,
Can you confirm this space issue is there in 6 disks or 4 ?

VNXe uses first 4 disks for system purposes, but due to the raid group design this happens for 5th and 6th drives as mentioned in the primus mentioned by Dinesh KR.

please don't refer to the 5+1 as being 5 + 1 spare, since this 1 is not a spare! The 1 is for parity!!! A spare is a hot spare and that means that when a disk fails, an available hot spare will start rebuilding the missing data from the remaining data and parity drives! There's a difference!

in case of 6 disks
the Truth is (4+1)+1
the first 1 is parity
the second is a hotspare if you want
