Unisphere VNX Client 1.3.0.1 JRE error

Hi,

When I start Unisphere VNX Client 1.3.0.1 am getting a RED Java runtime error. I followed the below link but had no luck. Also used Steve_T's recommendation but the same thing continues..

Re: Unable to open VNX Unisphere page with IE8 Windows 7 64

Am running Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit and the Java as:

java version "1.7.0_40"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_40-b43)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.0-b56, mixed mode)

I thought it could be a browser error but it stays persistent with other browsers as well.

Please help.

Taz~

have you tried downgrading to 1.6 ?

Unisphere is designed and tested to work with both Microsoft Internet Explorer (Version 6.0 with Service Pack 2 or later) and Mozilla Firefox (version 3.0 or later). In addition, Unisphere requires version 1.6.0_13 or later of the JRE to be installed

Unisphere may work with other browsers. However, support is offered only for the appropriate versions of the IE and Firefox browsers.

For optimal UI performance, EMC recommends that the memory limit allocated to the JRE be increased. The default size of 64 MB is often too small and may result in out of memory errors. To set the memory size, first verify that you are running the most recent version of Java 1.6. Installing Java 1.6 may fix your out of memory errors. If Java 1.6 is already installed:

  1. From the Start menu in Windows, select Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Java Plugin icon.
  3. Select the Java tab and click View in the Java Applet Runtime Settings section.
  4. Find the most recent JRE version and double-click the Java Runtime Parameters field and enter Xmx512m. The argument specifies the maximum memory.

Typically, about half the size of your overall workstation™s memory is recommended as the maximum memory value. For example, if your workstation has 1 GB of memory, use -Xmx512m for the JRE runtime parameter. If your workstation has 2 GB or more of memory, you can adjust the maximum JRE memory as needed to avoid running out of Java memory and possibly improving overall performance.

Java 7 Update 45 broke our Unisphere as well. Downgraded Java to 7 U17 and it started working again, although the auditors won't like it much. be sure to turn off the "Auto-Magic Updates" or you'll end up in the same boat again.....

Hi taz,

If the above method doesn't work, you can try the following two methods:

Method A:

  1. Select the Advanced tab in the JAVA control panel.
  2. Uncheck the option of Enable the next-generation JAVA plug-in
  3. Restart browser.

Method B:

Uninstall the JAVA 1.7, and then install the JAVA 1.6.

Finally, I wish your issue can be quickly resolved.

This worked the trick..

java version "1.6.0_45"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_45-b06)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.45-b01, mixed mode)

Now the Unisphere Client is loading with any hiccups...

Thanks everyone for your excellent support.
