Virtual disk service restarting for VNX snaps
All,
I am trying to flush/mount/unmount VNX snaps on Windows 2k3. When I try to flush a drive letter, the program hangs. Then, I get a message that the virtual disk service has stopped. It seems ok for a while then all action stops.
D:\scripts>symntctl flush -drive m:
The Virtual Disk Service service is stopping.
The Virtual Disk Service service was stopped successfully.
Then hangs here.
Thanks.

I will mention that I personally haven't used that specific EMC utility, but when working with VNX Snapshots you should consider instead using the snapcli utility (and admsnap with SnapView snapshots/clones). Can you give the following a try instead:
snapcli flush -o <drive letter>
For a list of various documents that provide details and examples on how to use snapcli (search for the utility by name from support.emc.com) which is designed specifically for VNX Snapshots, you can refer to the following post:
https://community.emc.com/thread/172890
It also gives examples on gracefully mounting and unmounting.

SnapCli isn't the utility that I can use. I'm launching at mounting snaps from a backup server, not the source host. SnapCli is better suited for flushing source LUNs and launching snaps from the host that's connected to the source LUN. I use naviseccli to launch and attach the snaps and symntctl to mount, flush, and umount. I have a feeling this is a quirk in Win2k3.
Thanks.

Check for prerequisite MS hotfixes
I know that RM doing similar things needed a bunch
