VNX5100 - Adding host to Storage Group : not available on Base system

Hello EMC gurus,

I would like to get your help on an installation problem :

I am currently set up a VNX5100. The system works fine, and was successfully initialized.

The OE Software is updated to : 05.31.000.5.007.

My problem :

I create a Storage Group, I add one LUN, and when I add a server I get :

The operation is not available on a Base-only system.

Which step I have forgotten ?

I have also a Storage Group ~filestorage with the LUNs for the NAS, is it possible to delete them to get free space on the Flare drives ?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards.

Hello Ross,

Thanks for your feedback.

In the Storage System Properties I have :

VNX-Block-Operating-Environment :  05.31.000.5.007

Unisphere

SANCopy

I have also installed :

emc265311 01015.005

I do not have other enablers.

For your information, ESRS is not installed at this time.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards.

It sounds as if the Block enabler is not installed.

Can you check by doing the following:

In Unisphere, select the system, then under System, select Hardware, System Properties, Software.

Does "UnisphereBlock" show in the displayed list?

As for your other question - no, you cannot delete those LUNs.

Yes, it does look like you are missing that enabler.  If you were not shipped that enabler on a CD with the system (and you may not have been since I would expect it to be installed at the factory), then you should open a Support Call to get it.

Hello Ross,

The customer has received the following licenses :

- EMC VNX5100 Unisphere for Block Software
- EMC VNX5100 Operating Environment.
Right to Use Certificates

I have reached EMC Customer Support since yesterday, I am waiting a confirmation that this enabler is missing.

Best regards.

Hello Ross,

You are right.

I have got from EMC French Support the enabler BlockEnabler-01.01.5.001-armada64_free.ena.

I have installed it with USM.

All is working fine.

Best regards.

I had received the same error message on a new VNX5700 install.  It appears as though the installer never installed the UnisphereBlock enabler.  We had started with the same 5.31.000.5.007 code, support thought that if we upgraded to 5.31.000.5.008 that the enabler would be there for it, but it wasn't, so we downloaded the UnisphereBlock enabler ran the install and all worked fine.
