VSI 5.3 plugin fails with "could not get VNXe host systems"
Hi;
I have a VNXe 3100 connected to a Cisco UCS chassis w/ B250-M2 blades . I'm runningVMware vCenter 5.1/ ESXi.5.1 wit iSCSI connections to the VNX3100. Iam abler to create iSCSI LUNs on the 3100 and map them to the the ESX hosts with no issues. I installed the VSI plugin and SV+VSM+Solutions enabler. I can get VSI to find the VNX3100, discover theDatastore etc. However wah i go to provision storage on the 3100 it appears to be workng the after about 10-15 sec I get the error " could no get VNXe host systems" and obviously no storage was provisioned. The ESX hosts can ping the VNX3100 and the 3100 can ping the ESX hosts and I can manually create datastrores on the the 3100 and they show up on the ESX host with no issue.. I also rebuilt vCenter on another Vm inported theESX hosts , reinstalled VSI and I still have the same issue ...any Ideas?

Tom,
Can I verify if you have also installed the VNXe Unisphere CLI? When using USM (Unified Storage Manager) feature with a VNXe, you also require the VNXe Unisphere CLI (not Navisphere CLI) which you can search for and download from support.emc.com. Under the covers for a VNXe, Unisphere CLI commands are run to provision the storage.
I only ask because you had listed all the software you installed, but didn't make any mention of this utility.
It is also worth noting that since it is a modular framework, while it may seem redundant, for each feature you need to discover the array. Therefore, since you have installed the following:
1) Storage Viewer
2) Unified Storage Manager
Under "Features", as a reminder, ultimately you will have discovered the host twice (once under the "Storage Viewer" roll-up menu and again for "Unified Storage Management").

Hi Christopher
Yes; Unisphere CLI 1.5.x is installed along with Storage Viewer and USM

Tom, would you please make the USM log as debug level, zip all the logs and attached to here? Thanks!

Hi
I finally got this resolved, I ended up reinitializing the VNXe-3100 to factor defaults and re configutred it

Thanks for the update! Tom
I assume you could work with VNXe both VSI 5.3 and 5.4 now.

Hi Piero
Yes, in our lab I have both VSI 5.3 and 5.4 running in different environments. One interesting
thing I found on the VNXe-3100 was I decided to delete all hosts datastores and iSCSI servers. The hosts and Datastores deleted with no problem, but one of the iSCSI servers could not be deleted. Gave an error "this iSCSI server cannot be removed until alll storage resources are deleted". This led me to the point where I decided to re-initialize the 3100 to factory defaults. Once rebooted and re-configured the VSI plugin worked with no problem.
