Dell Vostro 1015- RAM

I want to upgrade RAM in my Dell Vostro 1015 from current 2 GB to 4 GB. Please let me know the specifications supported.

The manual says DDR2/DDR3 800MHz. Does it mean it supports DDR3 as well?

If the speed is greater than 800MHz for a DDR3, will it still support and  be identified by the system?

Also, how do I check the number of RAM slots currently in use?

According to Crucial the specs for the 1015 are DDR2 800. The specs you refer to are for the 1014/1015. You can only use one type not either or. The Crucial page for the 1015 is here. However you can go to the home page for Crucial here , run their scanner, and it will display how many RAM slots you have. It will also let you know what type of RAM you have installed now. I would not spend too much time or money though on a system that is 11 years old. The increase in RAM will marginally improve the operation.

Press the windows key, type task manager, and then press enter. In the window that appears, click the performance tab , then select memory. In the lower-right corner, the number of slots is displayed in the slots used: section .
