Dell Vostro 5480 broken hinge

I have a dell vostro 5480 ( a touchscreen one) and one of the hinge are split horizontally and it strating split a border of the screen a bit, I've tried to visit my local repair shop but all of them said that because it is a touch screen model so they cannot done any repair without broken the screen itself and the only solution are to replace the whole screen panel and it will come with a new hinge. Does this the only way that can be done? I can lose the touchscreen option if that is going to save my screen rather than replace it whole. By the way, the machine warranty had ended for a long time ago.

Welcome to the Dell Community @Pond511

Could you take a picture of the damage and post it.

The panel can be replaced but there could be more damage than just that.

@Pond511

If it is not separating at the base and only the LCD lid.

Then you may only need to replace this.

@Pond511

Yes if the base has not begun to split then you may only need the lid.

This is what to look for.

This is not your model, just a representative.

If the base screws are all intact then the lid will just need to be replaced.

While your in there checking tighten down any screws that are loose.

Thanks for the advice and the instructions link, I will look for any loose screws and other damage as well. I'm a newbie at removing a PC so what did I have to remove to get access to that area?

@Pond511

Look in the manual for "Remove the Base Cover"

Removing the base cover should give you access to the Base Hinge Screws.

Check for any damage or loose screws.

That's great @Pond511

One less thing to worry about!!!

Now comes finding the, part number, the part, then ordering and replacing.

I cannot find a part number.

There are some but they are NON-touch.

You could look for the parts/part numbers, you need by searching your Service Tag.

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us?l=en

Look under "View Product Specs"

Regards and good luck,

U2

NOTE:

Post the part numbers if you need help finding them.

I don’t mind the non-touch unless it wasn’t compatible, can I replace it myself.

Two problems arise and I think I have to call it a day.

1. After unscrew the metal hinge connector from the base I can't get it to open and remove the display assembly, it was stuck as picture attached

2. I found little piece of black curved like plastic that broken on one end and can't seem to find where was it come from, I've looked everywhere, check each component on the base but there is no obvious missing part or broken locked.
