Vostro 3558, ram compatibility
I have a dell Vostro 3558 i3-4005U laptop, It has a single channel ram in it by default. Can I use 8gb dual channel ram in the 2nd slot?. My laptop configuration says it supports single channel

There were two configurations of Vostro 3558: one that has two RAM slots; another that has only one slot. As you mentioned "2nd slot", I will assume that you know that yours has two slots. (You can tell in Task Monitor.)
You should be able to add an 8 GB stick. But, sometimes mismatched RAM brands/models may not play well together. That's why a a matched pair of two identical RAM sticks is often recommended.
You need DDR3L-1600 SODIMM. Dell's specifications say that you may use a maximum of two x 8 GB sticks for a total of 16 GB, and Intel's specifications for your CPU confirm that.
Here is Crucial RAM guaranteed compatible with your laptop. You may try other brands, provided the timings are the same, especially latency. If Crucial doesn't work, they will accept a return and refund your money.
If you want to try another brand, I'll pass along my experience. I recently bought a relatively unknown brand, Kuesuny, of DDR3L RAM through Amazon for much less than the price of a big brand name, and I'm happy with it. I ran memory tests for a couple of days to thoroughly test the RAM when I first installed it. It performs well in an old Dell laptop and saved me money.
Whenever touching components or working inside a computer, wear a grounded wrist strap, also called anti-static wrist strap, ESD wrist strap, or ground bracelet. It's a cheap and sensible precaution. Rest the laptop on an anti-static mat or at least a reasonable alternative such as corrugated cardboard. (Repeatedly touching a metal case part is not sufficient mitigation with modern components.)

Hi Filbert,
Could you help me with another doubt?
Current ram specs:
Part no: HMT451S6BFR8A - PB N0 AA
4GB 1Rx8 PC3L-12800S-11-13-B4
As you can see it is a rank 1 (1Rx8) type ram, So can I use rank 2(2Rx8) ram in the second slot?
Does my laptop specs support rank 2 ram?

You need to ask the seller or manufacturer about compatibility, but if your goal is dual channel operation, that RAM won't give you that -- dual channel operation requires two matched modules, or if from other than the same manufacturer, modules of the same design and speed at least.
