White Bar on Screen at Startup Occurs Intermittently

New Vostro 14 5410 displays a white vertical bar on left (~20%) of screen along with several colored lines.

This only happens every few starts/restarts, but when it happens the screen always goes black before I can login.  Windows is running and if I attach an external monitor I can see the screen without issue.  If I enter the BIOS while the white bar is showing, that part of the screen is dead.

I noticed this problem right out of the box - literally.  I applied all Windows updates and Dell updates, including BIOS.  No change.

When the white bar does not show, the session boots up normally and the screen works fine.  I ran all Dell diagnostics - no problem identified.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

On a new machine I would be calling Dell tech support especially since the problem does not appear on an external monitor. It may be a display cable or it could be a display problem. Either way I would do it immediately so that the system can be repaired or replaced.
