fully activated Windows 7 laptop wont activate on Windows 10 upgrade. Inspiron 13 (1370, Late 2009) error code 0xC004C003

Good Evening,

I have been trying to upgrade to Windows 10 from windows 7 I was aware that dell uses a Injected Product code/activation from when I did a clean install a few months back when upgrading hardware so did some checking before processing the upgrade as I thought this may of been an issue, Luckily most info stated that as long as I upgraded it would provide me with a relevant updated product key for Windows 10 so I upgraded using the media creation tool with the upgrade option my Win 7 install was fully activated and updated but when doing the standard run though I found that Windows 10 had not activated and I was unable to change personal settings,

The given Error code 0xC004C003 Error description : The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked. When checking online and with Microsoft they stated that it was an issue there end due to the high numbers upgrading wait 24-48 hours and it'll activate on its own, so I waited nothing happened so spoke to them again same response so for about a week I waited still no activation.

I then reverted to Windows 7 to check activation and all was activated and fine. I then re-upgraded to win 10 this time using the windows update option just in case this helped Still not activated, so I have spoke to Microsoft again and now they are saying that its dell's fault and speak to yourselves (see attached Image) as its your product code that is blocked.

Is there any thing that you can advise or help me with?

Hi,

Just upgraded my XPS 12 to Win 10 and the new OS could not be activated due to "Error code: 0xC004C003".

Any idea why?

A point of interest, Windows 10 Product ID 00326-10000-00000-AA396 is exactly the same Product ID, I have on my Inspiron 530 MT version of Windows 10, upgraded from Windows 7

Both your Dell Windows 7 Home Premium OEM (English) Product ID and Windows 10 Home Product ID should match.

Hi,

Thanks could you advise what I should do next? Are these Product ID's auto assigned? is there a way to change the Product ID? is this what is causing windows not to activate?

Thanks for all your help

Matt

My mistake the Inspiron 530 didn't use Dell OEM SLP Activation (came with Windows Vista or XP via Downgrade rights) which is why your Windows 7 product ID is retail and not OEM.

mct999, if you change your Windows 7 product key to the one on the COA, will the Windows 10 upgrade work?

Hi,

Ok so putting it the Windows 7 Product key I had saved Gives me this this Error Code 0xc004f050 looks like you can only use a windows 10 key to activate.

From what I'm reading online when I did the upgrade it should of taken a snapshot of my hardware and updated me to a windows 10 key, The key that its given me isn't activating.

Is there away of confirming it took the snapshot as I don't remember that bit in the process (it may of completed in the background)

Many Thanks

Matt

I asked for support from Microsoft Answers in anticipation for these problems:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_install/the-free-upgrade-to-windows-10-for-windows-7-oem/b622ef33-ac69-4ca1-b7d1-9aa08321809f?auth=1

It appears they banned me instead of addressing the issues.

Theres two things that you can do...

1. Windows 7 → Reapply Dell OEM SLP Activation → Upgrade to Windows 10

The first is to revert to Windows 7 and then to remove your OEM SLP product activation:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/a-clean-install-of-windows-7/the-oem-or-retail-license-and-product-activation-windows-vista-7/removal-of-the-product-key-and-activation-using-the-command-prompt/

Then to reapply it with the ABR program:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/a-clean-install-of-windows-7/the-oem-or-retail-license-and-product-activation-windows-vista-7/the-activation-backup-and-recovery-program-windows-vista-7-version/

I don't know if this will work and don't have a system with a broken activation to test with. If you could test this out and leave feedback it would help a lot. I know its a time-consuming procedure....

2. Windows 10130 → Windows 10 Pro

This method I know works but you have to track down the 10130 .iso unless you downloaded it in advance:

Hi,

UPDATE : Manage to active Windows 10 Pro on my XPS 12 Utlrabook.

Background : My XPS 12 Ultrabook was on Win 8.1 Pro (Activated). When i received a notification on my taskbar that Windows 10 is ready for installation, I clicked on it and started the installation. During installation, it prompted for "product key" and i clicked "skip" as there wasn't any Windows CD/DVD with product key on it when i purchased the Ultrabook. After upgrading everything was ok but windows not activated. (Error code: 0xC004C003)

What i did:

1. Plug in my AC adapter, connect to the Internet.

2. Restore to previous build (i.e windows 8.1 Pro). Note down my product ID, system type (64 bit), double check my windows activation status - "activated". (Just in case....)

2. Download and run "Windows 10 Media Creation Tool" from Microsoft. Select option: "upgrade this PC", followed by "keep personal files and apps". There isnt any prompt for product key this time..

3. After installation, it says "Edition : Windows 10 Pro" "Activation : Windows is activated"

Hi,

Ok so I have completed part 1 went back to Windows 7, Removed and reapplied the OEM SLP activation using the tools provided my product ID and Product key didn't seem to change but I then tried to re- upgrade to Windows 10

The first error message I received was Failed Process 1 initiation failed. and loaded back into windows 7 gave me error code C1900101-20017.

Tried again re downloaded files and started the process this time the laptop just restarted and returned to windows 7 now every time it would just restart to windows, you couldn't do anything but restart it wouldn't let you check for updates or cancel.

I Tried using Microsoft update reset but still didn't fix after that I deleted all updates and hidden windows install files re used the windows update fix tool at this point it managed to allow me to re download and install windows 10

But its still not activating so will have to see if I can find a Windows 10130 iso

will try and complete over the weekend thought I would post this just in case you had and thoughts ideas?

Many Thanks

Matt
