ActiveX error

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 running win xp.  I have quick books installed and when I go to update online I get an activex error which reads: ActiveX component can't create object.  We were always able to update when we had dialup, but since changing to dsl we get this error message.  I don't think system restore is the answer as quick books has been installed since we got this computer in Jan 04.

No, it's not a SR-related solution.

It could be SP2-permissions problem. Do you have SP2 installed ?

Suggestions:

Do a disk cleanup (in Accessories).

Make sure all activex-related settings in IE are enabled.

Talk to Intuit; there may be a patch for this problem for XP users. (Are you using the 2001 version ?)

Can you update other activex-required programs, ie

Look at these threads and see if you can narrow it down to your software.

Thanks for the response.  I checked out the info from google and still no luck.  One post said something about there being a patch or file from intuit that you need to get and download, but had no luck trying to find it.  I'll keep looking.  Let me know if you think of anything else.

Thanks again

Your dsl provider may have had you install a firewall that is blocking activex software. Did you try the Office Updates link I gave you or windowsupdate.com to test activex's readibilty. If this is the case try running with the XP firewall and the router enabled and turn off the isp firewall. Also, make sure you allow popups.

If you're only using the XP firewall and your router has a hardware firewall component temporarily turn off the XP firewall, reboot and retry accessing the intuit software.
