Lol the sigmatel drivers don't work either. However I found out that when I installed
Dell Quickset the on screen volume bar was present again instead of having to use the mouse to use the one on the speaker icon in the system tray.

Can you tell me what Dell Quickset is? I have an XPS400 with theAudigy and Sigmatel problem but have'nt heard of Quickset before. At this point I leave no stone unturned! :) Thanks.

You will find quickset in the drivers and dowloads section make sure you in the area for Vista 32 bit.
I do not have creative or sigmatel drivers installed just the drivers Vista installs called HD Audio and the quickset. Now instead of having to use the speaker icon in the system tray to check my volume level quickset has a bar that comes on the screen when you use your volume buttons.

Quickset is a small app that lets you change the color of your LED's on the M1710 laptop as well as giving you faster access to wireless control and other small things that you might otherwise have to access the BIOS for...

Thank you both for your replies. I found the quickset but not compatible for my XPS. Did you remove the SigmaTel and Creative drivers before or after installing Vista? I guess we will have to live with the sound for now. When someone comes out with sound boards compatible with Vista perhaps I will buy one and disable onboard audio.

My next step is to install Vista on a second drive and figure out how to set up a dual-boot.
Thanks again to both of you.

Only after my upgrade to Vista would work because I was unable to uninstall Creative and Sonic so I did a clean install. Now everything is perfect.

All,

We just put out a post on what we're doing concerning the Audigy Software Edition. Basically the XP version will not work in Vista, a new version will be available for those who purchased systems with Vista factory installed or with the Express Upgrade. Mode details here:

I know this doesn't answer every question, but it's what we have for now.

Aaron (or any other Dell rep),

What are you doing regarding those that purchased the Advanced MB with their system but are not eligible or chose not to do the express upgrade through Dell? I purchased my Inspiron M1710 (top of the line) *weeks* before Vista Express Upgrade was offered. I also required Vista Ultimate for my O/S, of which Dell did not offer an Express Upgrade to anyway. How am I supposed to get my Advanced MB back working now?

I asked for an update yesterday, still waiting on an answer for XP customers with retail versions of Vista.

Aaron, did you hear anything back yet? There's still quite a few of us left in the dark without our Advanced MB software. Thanks.

This is still under discussion as of today.

I am in the exact same position as several of the other posters. I received my computer just a few weeks before they started the offer for Vista, purchased it myself, and now minimal sound and the Audigy MB software I paid for is useless. Please advise what you will do for those of us in this situation. I think it is fair that you give us access to updated software or a patch to make it run in Vista. Thanks

I bought the retail upgrade for Vista Ultimate.  I have sound, but get the Run DLL Error Loading CTMBHA.DLL and asked to click OK everytime I boot up or restart.  I have Audigy but I also have backups, like Cigma Tel and I did go into Google and did every update for Vista and went into Dell Downloads and upgraded all of my systems needed upgrades (I upgrade always on everything) so the install would be better.  I experienced a lot of problems with lack of compatibility and I got no help from Dell either.  I figured it out for myself and found all the updates and everything seems to be fine, except this little annoyance.

So, my best guess is to wait until there is an update from Dell and / or Microsoft as they sell us the systems with this software, so they have a responsibility to fix it...

Please let me know if you hear anything of helpfulness...  For those who are having sound problems, sorry, I feel for you...
