Aurora R4 Windows 8.1 Issues

This issue is solved by installing the newest command center 3.5.

Link here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails?driverId=P1K0M

Hope this helps you all.

Hi,

I recent upgraded my Windows 8 to 8.1 on my Aurora R4 which is bought in April 2013. After the upgrade, I found several issues:

1. SecureBoot is not configured as shown in the desktop.

So I enable it in BIOS and choose mode Standard. Looks fine to me.

2. AlienFX doesn't work any more.

No lights or blink on my desktop anymore. And after I shutdown the computer, the Alien Logo blink with red & orange light which is not my AlienFX theme.

I believe I'm not the only one: http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19528731.aspx

3. Thermal Controller doesn't work as well.

This is the most annoying one. If I choose Auto( Alien Control ) in thermal controller, the PCI Fan & Hard Drive Fan will keep at 100% and make a loud noise. So right now I change it Manual( User Control ). But it still make a loud noise during booting ( Whole time booting from I push the button to the windows desktop shown up until the thermal controller start up, not just 3 or 4 seconds at the beginning as before ) and shutting down.

Could you provide us some updates of AlienFX & Thermal Controller to make them compatible with Windows 8.1 ASAP?

Thanks

Hello Prince Kidd!

I would recommend you to uninstall the command center and reinstalled again, but follow the instruction on this article step by step.

Maybe the software got corrupted after the windows update.

Please let us know it goes.

It does fix the Thermal Controller problem. But AlienFX still doesn't work.

*bump

I'm having the same issues with the lights. My lights would turn on during boot up but shut itself down a few minutes into windows. I would have to change the color settings in the command center to get the lights to turn back on.

Actually the thermal controller problem comes back again. Nothing is fixed.

Can also confirm the fan spinning issue at startup since upgrade to 8.1. The reinstallation only fixes the problem temporarily

the startup spinning issue/sw issue will happens soon after the 1st
computer restart. the thermal controller and alien fx will not work. it
will work after you uninstall and install the command centre. but again, it
will start malfunctions again after the pc restart.

DELL, any update on this issue??

I would recommend you to re install windows 8 from scratch, and then try doing upgrade to the 8.1, right after start installing the drivers.

With all due respect: Are you SERIOUSLY suggesting us to re-install Windows 8?

I'm sorry, but I didn't buy a +2000 $ machine so I start re-installing the whole system every time there's a stupid issue.

I really hope DELL releases a fix...

Hello Dell, I never heard any desktop/laptop manufacturer asking the customer reinstall os to fix the problem occurs after the os update. This is the first. Your guys not even know whether it will work or not and then you asking your customer to become rat lab? I am very dissapointed with my aurora now, i need to uninstall and install back the command centre everytime my computer restart! Without doing this the thermal (cpu water pump) and the alien fx lighting will not work. Without the command centre, what is the Aurora? Without the lighting effect? Thermal issue? Im thingking to strip down and buy desent looking case that actually work. Why is that to big problem for dell to investigate, simulate and release updated command centre software to make the customer happy?

Reinstalling Windows is a horrible suggestion. I got tired of all the thermal and lighting issues that I went back to Win 7. Best decision ever.

Hi there,

Just wanted to bump this issue. I am in the same boat as all you guys and am having Dell give the ridiculous suggestion that I should re-install everything.

Absolutely agree with my fellow poster that we did not spend so much money on a system to have to re-install everything. Dell/ Alienware you guys seriously need to get your act together and fix this problem.

Your customers are not going to accept this and it will only escalate and damage your reputation in the mean time.

We need Alienware command centre to work with Windows 8.1 asap.
