Hi,
Go to the "Windows Update Log" and look for any errors. This gives a clearer indication as to the exact nature of the problem.

C:\Windows\Windows Update.log

Take a note of the error numbers

Hi

Thanks for the info. Are you referring to the "view installation history"; if not how does one access the "windows update log"?

No, not the installation history.

You will find "Windows Update Log" in C:\Windows\Windows Update.Log

I found it but it only goes up to 2004-8-14; how can I check this out?

Do you have any error messages?
There are so many reasons for a failed installation. We do not know what stage it failed at.  Did it even download at all?  It is impossible to troubleshoot without more information.

I suggest that you go to the Windows Update site

Click on "Express Install" and try to download and install some of the Updates it finds for you.
If it fails and you get an error message, post it back.  Try checking in that Log then too.
