You can stop any programs/processes which are running, by doing what I call the "3-fingered salute" - namely by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Delete keys simultaneously, and selecting 'Start Task Manager'.
Click the 'Applications' tab at the top of the Task Manager window, and see if there's any mention of something along the lines of 'Windows Backup...'?
If it's not under Applications, it will be listed in 'Processes'.
Once you identify the program, right-click on it, and select 'End Process'. This will immediately close it.
However... that only closes it for your current session. It's quite possible it will reappear again, the next time you start Windows :emotion-3:
To prevent that, you'll need to remove any mention of it in your 'Startup' folder.
In Windows 7, the Startup folder is pretty well tucked away, and harder to find that it was in previous OS.
However, you can 'Search for it, by clicking the Start button, and in the small search box in the lower left, type 'Startup'.
It starts searching your system, as soon as it recognises the word you're typing, and when completed, it will probably have identified two startup folders (search results are listed in the Start menu)?
The 'Startup' folder you're looking for is a 'Users' folder, and is probably the top one of the two?
When you click on it, it might throw up an error message saying it can't find it? Don't worry!
That's because it's a hidden folder (FYI - it's default location is C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup)
It'll still open a new window though, showing the contents of the folder.
You're looking for anything in it relating to the backup file which is auto-starting each time you reboot your system.
If that all sounds rather too complicated for your liking, there's another way of checking/disabling programs which run at startup, and that's using a (FREE) program called Revo Uninstaller.
Despite it's name, it has additional features to it's uninstaller. One of those is 'Autorun Manager' which can be found in its 'Tools' menu.
When you click on the Autorun Manager, it'll list everything which runs at startup, in the window on the right.
To disable anything in there (it hopefully includes that annoying Windows Backup file?), simply un-tick the tick box next to it.
And that's it!
I should add here, that you ought to create a System Restore point before you change any of the autorun options - just in case.
OK, I found the task manager, and checked it out as you directed, and there was no entry about any backup at all. I also went the route you described, and there was no reference to any backup there either. So, its back to square one and start over, I guess.
Well, by the total lack of ANY responses, I guess that either I am hallucinating about this problem, or absolutely no one else has ever had this problem.
