???

No clue what thread you are talking about.

It sounds like your hard drive has gone bad. You should be able to recover the data by purchasing a USB enclosure. This would turn the hard drive into an external hard drive.

Hi Pigatti, I am having the same problem.  Can't get off the Windows boot manager screen.  Did you get your computer to work?  I have Vista 64-bit.

I'm having the same issue also on my Inspirion D660. I started with the bootable windows 7 disk I bought from a small tech company. the D660 series is 32 bit and the disk is 64 bit so that didn't work. but now I'm getting these messages: "the file or directory C:\windows\winsxs\msil_system.web.extendions_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_3d3f7e36fc4f6ba2\System.Web.Extensions.dll is corrupt and unreadable. Please runthe Chkdsk utility" and the message \assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Web.Routing\3.5.0.0 is corrupt and the message \Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5\System.Windows.Presentation.dll is corrupt  and the message C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft windows security-pku2u_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.16385_none_7e462a69ffcb5639 is corrupt and unreadable. I can't boot in safe mode and the it says that I have no restore point to go back to and I put 5 different restore points on the computer long before my system problem. I can't even do a restore to when I 1st bought the computer, I now get the "Error 1" message box.

and just as PIGATTI wrote my laptop also, needless to say, won't run Windows from the disk. does anyone know of a cost effective solution for this situation? and thank you for taking the time to read my posting
