Can't install Windows Live Messenger

I can't install Windows Live Messenger on my new Dell laptop.   In trying to find a solution, I came across the following message which is identical to my problem.  This person also had a Dell notebook computer.

"  An error occurred during the installation of assembly
"Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.163",type=" win32,PublicKeyToken="ifc8b369a1e3b",processorArch itecture="x86"

After I close the installation because of the above notice, I get a a 1603
error message.  "

I can't find that the above question was ever resolved.

Has anyone had a similar issue?  Thanks

Are you trying to download WLM from the link on the start menu ?
Try downloading it from the Windows Messenger website   http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

What kind of Dell laptop? WHat OS?

I have an E1705 with VISTA and I have installed Live no problem. I did not receive any error messages with my setup.

It is an Inspiron 1420 with Windows Vista.  Just the basic Vista, not the premium.

As I mentioned in my first posting, someone with a Dell had the same exact problem.  I don't know if they ever figured out what was causing the problem.
It seems there is some type of conflict when I try the install.
