Can't open new windows - slugish performance (please reply)

I am having trouble opening new windows and having slugish performance after I have been on my computer for a while. I usually go to FILE , New Window or Cntrl + N to open a new window. Usually after I open a few new windows, opening more is very slow, and even closing them by clicking on the red X in the top right upper corner closes them slowly.

Then when I try to open a link by right clicking on it to open a new window, sometimes it opens and sometimes it does not - especially when there are a lot of windows open already.

Furthermore, I have the taskbar line at the top where I can type in a new url, then I have the File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, and Help on the Second line. On the third line is a Star for Favorites, Home and Print.  Sometimes when I open a new page, only the 1st and 3rd lines appear and the 2nd line in the middle is missing.

I have run Norton anti-virus and Spybot and no viruses or spyware is found.

I am only using 90% of my available space on my computer, and I ofter go to Tools and delete the cookies and temporary internet files.
If these problems persist, all I can do to clear it out is to restart the computer, and that usually corrects the problem.

I have only been getting this problem since I installed Internet Explorer 7, and never had it for Internet Explorer 6, but I don't know how to delete Internet Explorer 7 and change back to Internet Explorer 6.

Can anyone tell me what the problem might be?

Please reply.

Hello :smileyhappy:

Yes, I`d try rolling back to IE6

Click Start / Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs.

Check "Show updates" radio box. (top of page)

Scroll down the list to find Internet Explorer 7 and click Uninstall.

Restart and IE 6 is back where it was before IE 7 swallowed it up.

have you downloaded anything other than IE7? It might be worth your getting the program C Cleaner, that cleans out a lot of rubbish. re IE7, I have been reading that when uninstalling IE7 from Add/Remove Programs it automatically reverts back to IE6 but I haven't done it myself so I would rather you get confirmation of that from others.

Could the problem be that I added JAVA to my computer?

If Java is installed properly and working it should not be the cause.
Check your Java
If you fail the test scroll down to a check list

2. Check if you have the latest Sun Java
Click the “Download” button and you will soon get an option to verify your installation.

When you click on the “Download” button a check is run to see which version you have.  If you do not have the latest one the download will start and install it for you too. If you do have the latest you will be told so and no download will start.

If you have to install an update, after the EULA there is a page with Google Toolbar and Google Desktop checked for downloading, so watch for this and uncheck the boxes if you don`t want them.

When you press Control , Alt and Delete on Windows XP to bring up the task manager, look at the running processes when this happens. Do you see any file name/program using more CPU percentage then it should be?

I reverted to Internet Explorer 6, and I am still having problems opening new windows and getting memory full errors.  Can anyone advise? I have also submitted a new posting MEMORY FULL PROBLEM.

This problem has been going on for over 5 months and it is getting worse.

hi again, all I will suggest at present is are you still using 90% of available space on your system? Have you done anything about getting rid of programs that you no longer use? I notice that you have another post and haven't seen it yet, I will look out for it to see what you say there.

I am in the process of deleting all unused programs in the startup, and on my computer.

Furthermore, I do need a cleaner program, so if someone will share one with me, or there is one in shareware or freeware, please advise.

If that does not help, I can not think of anything but trying system restore to a very old date, or reloading windows from scratch.

Any suggestions?
