Do you have one bay or two? You can go to start>my computer and look for the drives there under devices with removable staorage. If you have two one  drive should say cd-rw.This one will burn cd's.

Dell has used many different names for their burning software, Sonic, Roxio, go to Start/All Programs and see what is there.

I can't find either of those 2 pieces of software. I guess that I don't have the Burning software that I thought that I had. I must seem pretty silly, but at least I know what I have to buy. Thanks.

If you got this from Dell and there is a writer there, you must surely have a program. Go to the Start Programs and look for something like Roxio, or Nero, or something like that that may the program you are looking for. Can't find it, go to My Computer the C then Windows Programs. Look through there for something in the frame. Take a disk, put in into the tray and try to drag something to it. It it takes you do have something to burn. Look at the task bar on the right, do you see anything that indicates a CD or DVD icon. If so right click it to see what it there. Work a try.

Download and run the Belarc Advsior   www.belarc.com   it will profile your hardware and software.  You can then see what you have.   As noted look for either Roxio or Sonic as that what Dell supplies with new PC's (they don't supply Nero).  However, if you did not get a CD or DVD burner, but just a CD/DVD "ROM" drive (a reader only) then you will not have any burning software installed by Dell.

If you have no burner or burner software, you can get an external  USB CD-DVD R/W burner for around $100.  If it does not come with software, buy Roxio.
