check disk

I have Dimension 4700? The problem I'm having is when I go to My Computer right click my drive then properties then tools I like to run the check disk, but when I click the check now button nothing happens I't won't open, I've tryed clicking numerous times and still will not open.It will run under command prompt.But the button doesn't open open it.

    if you have windows xp the ideal way to run check disk is:

    Start > Run > "chkdsk /f"

    answer Y to the prompt and then restart your computer.

    Do you have sort of pop-up blocker enabled ? In any case it's better to run chkdsk from the command prompt before everything loads. As you may know you can also run it from the Recovery Console, booting from the cd. Those minor 'consoles' tend to fail after a while and are often quite hard to fix them. In your case you have 2 better alternatives so I wouldn't give it a second thought.
