chinese language pack

Good afternoon everybody!  I need help regarding the chinese language pack.

My computer is a Dell Dimension 4500S. The operating system is windows XP home edition. Last week my computer was down then I sent it into a repair shop where they reinstalled the windows XP home edition with service pack 2 into my computer. That fixed whatever problem I had. But that also erased the chinese language pack from my computer. Now when I tried to install that language pack, the system wanted me to insert the windows XP home edition service pack 2 cd into my cd-rom. I wonder can I find the language pack from internet somewhere?  I tried windows update website, but the systems can't detect any  available update for me.

Any suggestion is great appreciated!

Hello there.

I also need help regarding the Chinese and Japanese language pack. My computer is also a Dell Dimension 4500S, and the operating system is Windows XP home edition.

I had a very similar experience in that after my hard drive crashed while running Windows ME, I sent my computer to be repaired where they installed Windows XP home edition. However, even after I installed Service Pack 2 the Supplemental language support for East Asian languages is completely missing.

When I go to Regional and Language Options, click on the languages tab, then click on the box that says "Install files for East Asian languages" the box UNCHECKS itself when I click Apply!

Also, when I click on the button labled Details and click on the  "Add input language" button, lists come up for both Input language and Keyboard layout/IME, and  Chinese, Japanese, and Korean are not on the lists at all.

I followed the link in the reply to your post, thinking of course that at last there might be somewhere where I can download the missing Input Method Editor, (IME)  or an East Asian language pack for Windows XP, Home Edition, but instead I just found the same advice I found everywhere else, namely, "Click on Start, Go to Settings, Click on Control Panel , Double click Regional Options, Click on the Languages tab, Check Install files for East Asian languages", etc, etc.

I also downloaded the Microsoft Global IME 5.02 and Chinese (simplified) - with language pack for 32-bit Windows from Microsoft.com. However, when I tried to install it, I merely got a pop up message which told me that it would not work with my version of Windows. So, back to square one.

My question is the same to anyone out there reading this post:
Is there anyplace online where I can download Chinese and Japanese IMEs or an East Asian language pack for Windows XP, Home Edition?

I would really appreciate any help in this matter, and if you've read this far, thank you for your patience and I apologise for such a lengthy post.

Thank you all and goodnight.
