No telling what the problem is, but:  Do you have anti-spyware up and running, anti-virus up and running, the latest Windows service packs, a firewall up and running?   It would also help if you gave your computer model, operating system, and as many details of the problem as you can.   Also, have you tried a System Restore to an earlier date when things ran well if you use XP or Millenium).

I'm on a dimension 8300 with XP.  I've run antivirus and spyware that shows up nothing.  The problem has been with the computer for a long time, about 6 months.  I havent tried to fix it because I disconnected fromthe internet over the summer, and the problem seemed to have gone away.

It's possible that there are too many programs running on the background.  It seems that you haven tried msconfig.

click start >> run >> type msconfig in the open box >> click ok >> go to the startup tab >> disable everything except for your anti virus and spyware program >>click apply >>close >> restart.

Hope this works:smileywink:
