dell windows 7 free upgrade
Hey has anyone actually received the windows 7 update? I purchased my laptop on July 10 and my service tag still not in dells database. It has been well over 10 days. After numerous calls to dell the only thing customer service can tell me is to wait 10 days till after my purchase date. well it has been well over 10 days. How did people even get a order placed. I see that that shipping dates for the people who some how magically placed orders are for after january, so i guess i will never see my free upgrade? I think i need to contact the news and get them to report on this case. Sounds similar to how they deceived people by claiming to have next business day onsite service when it takes 5 days in my experience. Now i was promised an update and have till January to claim it but on every attempt of me claiming it I am told I must wait 10 days. Thank you were deceiving me once again dell. A bunch of Liars and Crooks.

robjarocki,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
I just sent you a private message requesting information. Please reply to the message so that I can take a look at why your system is not in the Dell Database.

Hi,
I am having the same problem with a VOSTRO laptop I purchased on 11/12. Even though the system is eligible for upgrade, when I try to do it, it tells me the service tag is not in the system.
Help!

Hi Kristin
I saw this post and I thought I'd email you and ask you a few questions. I bought my Inspiron 1525 on 14 of Dec and today I was trying to apply for the free upgrade to Windows 7. On the website I got to a page where I registered the product code, and clicked continue, but after that nothing happened. No messages came up, and I wasn't too sure what else to do.
Please let me know what I can do to get this free upgrade Windows 7.
Thank you
Fumi

I'm not sure where I need to go to check if my Dell is listed online. I bought it in Sept. 2009. When I bought it, it said online that my computer qualified for the free upgrade. If anyone knows please post so I can find out more information. Thanks

I too have been giving advice to a friend who received a laptop in July and she has had nothing but troubles with trying to claim the free copy of Windows 7.
First the password at https://win7.dell.com/Login.aspx?email=yes failed and we had to reset it, the new password also failed so we had to reset again. I completed a details error log and tried to submit it to the Contact us form (https://win7.dell.com/ContactLTG.aspx) for the windows 7 site and it failed to submit (broken form).
I just called DELL Home and Home Office 1800-812-393 and was transferred to Khamal (in Malaysia) and he said he was going to reset our password a 4th time. He hung up on me when I asked to speak with his supervisor a number of times.
I am starting to think that DELL are not wanting to honour this promise and I may need to speak with our ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) and make a formal complaint.
If someone from Dell can help please reply.

Dell's customer support is really horrible. I had the same problem and called the customer service. First time they put me on hold for ever. After many calls and lots of frustration, I called them using a speaker phone while doing my other work. After waiting for more than 1:30 hrs and telling the same story (Tag number, express code, order ID, date, address and so on) the5th rep activated one tag and disconnected the call. To activate the second Tag, I had to wait even more. This experience made me not to do any shopping with Dell.
Coming to your point, if you have around 2 hours to waste on the phone call the customer service and if you are lucky some 5-10th rep will activate your tag

I had the exact same problem. The laptop (Studio 17) was bought for me as a present and I was told that there was a free Windows 7 upgrade valid on it but that we would have to wait as it was not out yet. When I got the laptop in November, Windows 7 was not yet out (to my knowledge). I went on the Dell website and struggled to find very limited info on actually getting the free upgrade. In early December I checked again and there was a link to a website for which you would have to register your laptop and then wait for an email explaining what would then need to be done to get the upgrade.
I registered on the website by putting my email address in and my laptop service tag number. The website then told me that my computer had been registered for the free upgrade and that I would be contacted via email. I went abroad on holiday from mid-December to mid-January and then left it a few weeks before trying again. When I went on the Dell website again, then suddenly I was informed that the registration period had expired. I called Dell and by the end of the (approx) 75 minute phonecall I was no further along in my quest to get my FREE UPGRADE. During my phonecall to them I did also discuss the fact that my keyboard was working intermittantly, but as luck would have it, it worked while I was testing it on the phone. Oh joy. Then the Dell consultant told me that they could transfer me to a software suport desk as the problem was probably software related but that I would have to pay for the call !!! I told him no... in a more direct sort of way !!! He then promised me that "the higher ups" would be handing my compaint and that I would be contacted but coud not tell me when or how I would be contacted as that was for the "higher up" to decide !!!
I'm still waiting for my call back AND my FREE UPGRADE to Windows 7. Not sure whether I should hold my breath or not. I'm thinking NOT.

Hello,
I'd like to use my free Windows 7 upgrade with my Dell Studio 15 Vista laptop. How might I go about doing this?
Thanks!
