Desktop System Software

Last night, I installed the latest recommended version (1.14.0, A06) of Desktop System Software for my DXP051 (XPS/Dimension 400/9051) system.

I have two questions:

1) How can I verify that the correct version is now properly installed on my system?

2) Can someone explain to me how to interpret the installation instructions given from the Drivers and Downloads page?  The instructions given are:

Install

1.Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled R121089.EXE.
2.The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or
unzip to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R121089. Write down this path so the executable (I.e.
Setup.exe) file can be found later.
3.The Self-Extractor window appears.
4.Click OK.
5.After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor
window is still open, close it.
6.Click the Start button and then click Run.
7.Type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R121089 in the Open textbox and then click OK.
8.Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

and, yet, on my system, when I click on the R121089.EXE icon, the system goes through the extraction and directly into the install process.  This seeming contradiction with the published instructions causes me to be uneasy as to whether or not everything has installed properly - especially since I do not know how to verify the version of DSS installed on my system.

Thank you.
