Difference between XP Pro and XP Pro 64??

I see listings for XP Pro 64 and my OS is XP Pro?  What is the difference, or are they the same?

XP Pro 64 only runs on PCs with Pentiums that support 64-bit instructions. XP Pro is for PCs with 32-bit CPUs.

Well, not exactly. You can run the 64 bit version on the current 32 bit machines and they will acyaullay run better, but the best performance will be seen on the ones with the 64 bit processors.

Thanks for your response.  So where is the Dell support for XP Pro on 32 bit computers?  It is much different from XP.  I received XP Pro on the computer that they replaced.  It has been a learning experience, but when I have questions I have been posting in Software for XP.  Is that correct?

That is right . . other than some networking and security features . . there is very little difference between Home and Professional versions of XP . . most users will never know which they are using.

If you can get drivers for NIC, video, and optical drivers then you have the three basic ones needed to install XP64.
I too am waiting for drivers for a 64 bit version I have. I am just now thinking the individual makers will have those drivers such as D-Link, nVidia, and Bose. I will check there today.
