I'm about to try to upgrade from ME to XP on my dell dimension 4100. In the upgrade report under "software that must be reinstalled" it says 'Directcd 3 has a known compatability issue with this version of windows and might not run as expected. Drivers installed by this program might cause system instability, including problems with shut down/restart and the inability to use a dvd drive' I was unable to contact Roxio. If I do clean install how do I resolve this issue?
You will have to Purchase a new CD burning program. None of the old Adaptec Easy CD programs are XP compatible. And, you need to uninstall them BEFORE you do the XP upgrade (and any other items that the Upgrade Advisor flags - it's critical to a successful upgrade).
The XP compatible versions are the Roxio Easy CD V5/6/7, however with V5, it has some issues with the XP service packs and also Take Two must not be installed as it is not XP compatible. V5 will work with the SP's as long as the updates are installed. Roxio Easy Media V7 is the current version of the Roxio series (and may be last (?) since it was sold to Sonic which has Record Now CD burning software).
Inspiron 16 5630 Laptop and WD22TB4 Docking Station
Self-built desktop for recording studio application
Apparently I have an issue with the BVRP phone tools software also. If I do a clean install can I just worry about obtaining software later? Thanks very much for your help!
