Downgrading from Vista Ultimate to XP Pro

I haven't really been happy with Vista since I purchased my system 10 mths ago and have been thinking about downgrading to XP Pro for a while.

I have now decided to do this "downgrade" and on the microsoft site it says to contact my system supplier for downgrade media. However, when I search on the Dell site it suggests I need to buy a new "Full" version of XP Pro.

Has anyone else downgraded successfully, and how did you do it?

Thanks

Hamster99,

Hi ive rolled back two machines in the last five months, they was brand new & i had nothing but issues on both of them so i decided to take that action, HOWEVER one of my machines is playing me up, ive lost total sound & i belive its SP3 related, ive installed the HD Audio Bus via Realtek & still nothing? ive also got ALL the updates via M/Soft still nothing? so ive tried a few other things & im still scratching my head so ive asked these lovely people here to help me & so far ive had some replies which does help, out of the two OS's id STILL have XP over Vista anyday, i did also loose sound on my mothers machine last year & i again made some enquires with M/Soft & i am YET to recive a reply!! so dont go down that lane, i DID fix my mothers simply by going onto the manufactuers website & downloading ALL the "Urgent" updates, ive also tried this with the machine i have a issue with at the mo but got no where..?

Anyway i wish you luck & im sure these lovely people will help you..

ALl the best & happy Christmas..!!!

Hamster99,

Before we can advise you, we need to know the model of your Dell; i.e., Dimension 531, Inspiron 1505, etc.

You surely weren't expecting to get XP FREE... were you :emotion-3:

You bought a system with Vista as the OS.

Subsequently... if you want to install an alternate Microsoft OS... then you have to pay for it out of your own pocket :emotion-55:

If you purchased Vista Business or Ultimate (and possibly Enterprise, but I can't remember for sure right off hand) then the downgrade rights to XP Pro are available.  Assuming your version of Vista qualifies for the downgrade rights, you can get an XP disk from tech support.  If you have any of the other versions Vista (that don't qualify) then you would need to purchase the copy of XP you wanted to install.
