DVD Decoder missing

I recently reinstalled XP onto my computer, and apparently in the process my DVD decoder was lost.  How do I recover it?

I already reinstalled Sonic.  Nothing happened.

You need to install the software for your DVD drive.   Either Sonic or Roxio.

Over the years different software has shipped with Dell computers, so you will have to be more specific.  Which "sonic" did you install?

The laptop and sonic software is all less than 6 months old.  I know not what exact version it is.

The disc I installed it from is Digital Media v7 plus.  It installs the Sonic version I have, but this version only includes disc writing and copying software.

Did you get something like Power DVD with your computer?  All Dell computers that ship with DVD drives also ship with software to play DVDs.  It would have been quite helpful from the beginning if you stated which model computer you have.  With that information someone would be able to tell you what should have come with your computer.

Yes, it came with PowerDVD, but I lost that too in the process of reloading.  I did not get a PowerDVD disc with my computer.

The make of my computer is a Dell Inspiron 600m.

See the Moderator's post about missing CDs at the top of the Software - Windows XP forum.

Does it matter which part I bought it from?  When I try to do the chat, it tells me that I do not have a Home & Home Office computer...

Yes, it matters which division you bought the computer from.  You will have to use the phone.

Did you have a disk of WinDVD? My computer came with the disk. I had the same problem when I installed XP.
WinDVD fixed it.

I guess that you are in the UK like me. DELL don't have caring customer support in the UK.

I have similar problems and they ignore my emails and don't reply to voicemail messages!

DELL UK are a black hole as far as customer support is concerned, in my experience.

I am having this same problem, well almost the same. I reformatted, and reinstalled my PowerDVD software, but my Windows Media Player 10 does not play DVDs. I would reinstall WMP10, but it refuses to rollback to ver. 9 giving me just the error message "Rollback failed." Any ideas on how I can get it to play them again?
