Excel (hyperlink help / code changes when I save it)

When I create a hyperlink in excel that links to another excel workbook (on the company server / between network drives) that does work when I check it, but after I save the workbook the hyperlink becomes invalid.

Before saving:

\\mercury\DMC Prints\CUSTOM TRAILERS\Slide Axles (TE_01)\17000-17999\17124\Print List TE801 (17124).xls

After saving:

../../../DMC%20Prints/CUSTOM%20TRAILERS/Slide%20Axles%20(TE_01)/17000-17999/17124/Print%20List%20TE801%20(17124).xls

Help me if you can.

Thanks,

    Hi Bryan

I'm no expert but it looks to me like when you save the document the hyperlink is being converted to a relative link rather than an absolute link (which, I think, is what you want).

To force it to save as an absolute link (which I think is what yo want) open the spreadsheet and go to File>>Properties then click the Summary tab and type \\mercury\ into the Hyperlink Base text box. (without the underline - I don't know why this editor thinks that is a URL)

Now save your spreadsheet and your problem might be solved.

By the way, don't worry about the "%20" inserted at various points - this is just another way of specifying a  space character in a URL.

    Hope this helps.

    Tony
