I have had this happen once before and managed to sort it by restoring.  This time though, for reasons perhaps to do with PCTools Registry Mechanic(?) there are no restore points so is there another solution please?

 

When I log into an account the icons do not appear at all and neither does the tool bar.  Running explorer.exe from the task manager brings them back and evrything works fine.  I have tried creating a new account and the same happens.  I have tried sfc /scannow and it didn't seem to find a problem.

 

It may be related to the sudden appearance of the Windows sys32 hidden files folder each time I log in which started happening about two weeks back but I simply closed it with no ill effect.  Could they be related or is there a solution to that too please?
