Format C:\ on dos, not supported
hi, I have an issue. I want to perform a clean overhaul of Window XP Pro. However, when I tried to do a format on my Hard Drive C: from the Dell Resource CD after zipping the ' clean ' software on a 3.5 disk for dos. It refused !!! Once in the past, I had no trouble doing this! Is this something new by Microsoft?? Anyways back to hard drive issue.
I had to open a few files from A: to get into the format section. However, when I type Format C:\ ... it gave me this message:
Format not supported on c:\
Format not supported on c:\
Format Termiminated
What can I do next? Your help is appericated! :smileyhappy:

DELL DIMENSION 2400

An additional note. Most Windows PC's have the hard drive formatted with "NTFS" and DOS does not recognize NTFS. DOS only recognizes the older "FAT" formatted hard drives.

Search the forum for reinstall XP and you will come up with a lot of good sources.
basically, you will need to setup your BIOS to boot from the CD, delete the existing partion, create a new partion(s), and then install XP onto a clean newly formatted partition.
