Hangs up on desktop

Hi,
 
Am hoping that someone can answer this question.  My Documents, My Computer, Network Neighborhood, Network Connections and Internet Explorer will not open when I click their respective icons on my Windows XP Home desktop Also I have Service Pack 2 installed.   In addition, Window Updates will not begin update when I click its icon on taskbar.

    So what happened to make this not start working?  What di you change or install?

    Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. I did not change anything nor install anything new. After noticing that this had occurred, I ran my anti-spyware, ad-adware, and anti virus software. A few things showed up and I deleted them hoping this would solve the problem, but to no avail. Julie

    You might want to post the contetns of your Hijack This Log File over in the Spyware Forum where those folks can help you.
