Either way this is not dell its microsoft.

Current IOS no longer provides a windows readable format like JPG or MP4.

Dell does not support Apple IPAD IPHONE or other Apple products.

Starting with iOS 11 and continuing on to iOS 13, Apple switched the default camera formats for photos and videos to High-Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) for images and sequences of images. For photos, that meant using HEIC files instead of JPEG, and the default for videos is now HEVC H265  instead of H264 MP4.

This is not a Microsoft Windows or Dell support issue.

Apple will of course be happy to sell you a Mac to fix this.

There is a falling out between Microsoft and Apple so new macs also don't run windows with bootcamp like they did since 2006.

There are 2 Microsoft apps that help with this.

They are not however free.

iPhone IOS 15.4.1 (current) Settings: Photos: Transfer to Mac or PC: Automatic/Keep Originals => Automatically transfer photos in a compatible format, or always transfer the original file without checking for compatibility. Thus... IOS will xfer jpeg to PC when Automatic selected via USB connection. Thanks, is there a Dell shell extension for the thumbnails that can be obtained please.

You can also use Dell's Mobile Connect (on both the PC and IOS devices.

Start it to connect, and you get to basically see al the photo's or can even copy from PC to the iDevice.

Works well. Much easier to use as well. Can also Text from the PC with it.

There is No such thing from Dell for what you are asking for and no support for Apple HEVC or HEIF from Dell. Dell mobile connect and HEIF HEVC extensions combined may be what you need.

To see thumbnails though, you need to use extensions.

On modern versions of Windows 10, you can install support for
HEIC image files in just a few clicks. This works on Windows 11, too.

First, locate an HEIC file in File Explorer on your computer and double-click it.
If you’re asked which application you want to open it in, select “Photos.”

The Photos app will tell you that “the HEIF Image Extension is required to display this file.”
Click the “Download and install it now” link to get it from the Microsoft Store.  Its $1 but not free.  There is ZERO support here for what you are asking about.

thanks, does this solve the thumbnail problem, i think your solution is an HEIC HEVC viewer - guess i will just convert the HEIC to JPEGS and carry on, since i get JPEGS off my iphone IOS version 15 no problem now. indeed, my Dell XPS did display thumbnails as originally imaged from Dell, i had a boot fail and had to re-image the machine and it was then that I no longer had HEIC thumbnails - ergo - there is something in the Dell image. Thanks
