After you reinstalled Windows, did you also reinstall all the drivers? Start with the Notebook System Software, then the chipset driver, then the others. I suspect the video adapter driver is missing.
Also, the reason the restore function no longer works is because you reinstalled Windows and now it is disabled. If the partition is still there you
might be able to recover it if you want. See the thread below for more info.
My graphics card is an Intel 945. Now when I go to install the video adapter, it says that "One or more files that are required for installation are either missing or corrupt. Setup will Exit." What do I do now?
I downloaded it again. I also ran the chipset and the notebook configuration drivers first. I went to Intel and tried to download it, and my computer says that it does not meet the system requirements. That is not possible, I have the right chip and my computer is (was) good enough to run it. This is frustrating, I am following your directions and nothing seems to work.
Also, when I do Start->Run-> dxdiag, when I go to the display tab my computer shows no signs of a video card. No entry in the name and manufacturer lines. Is this because I have no video drivers yet? Can a video card out?
Either the driver download was corrupted (d/l it again) or you did not install the specific software and chipset driver
before the video adapter driver that I mentioned in my previous reply.
Okay, I solved it. The drivers that came with the computer were for the Intel 945GM chip, which I thought I had. It turns out that my laptop came with a free graphics card upgrade to an ATI Radeon 3000. I downloaded that driver and now my computer is fixed. I really, really, really appreciated all your help. Happy Holidays! :):):)
