Inspiron 15 5558 - very slow

Hi,

I recently bought a the 5558, roughly six or eight weeks ago; I have been very disappointed with the performance since day one. I do not use it often at the moment, and only for browsing and Office.

I've tried all the 'tips' that I found through Google searches, plus Advanced Systemcare 8 to defrag and optimise, plus the Dell System Detect (No issues).

Programs often take a long time to load, if at all, especially Chrome. Downloads are painfully slow (e.g. 15 minutes for a 70kb .doc file) despite speedcheck showing a 4.9MBps rate. Chrome and Firefox both frequently stall and a popup offers me to 'kill' or 'wait' for the page. Also when opening file explorer, it can take fully 5 minutes to 'find' anything - even in near-empty folders.

Any other ideas? Has anyone else had any similar issues?

The laptop did come preloaded with Windows 10 and I double checked the minimum requirements, there really shouldn't be any issues.

Thanks for any replies

I purchased the 5558 a little over a year ago, and have also found it to be beyond slow. In fact, we ended up using our old laptop instead for most of the past year. However, our old laptop finally died, so now I'm trying to make use of the 5558, and it's one of the most frustrating things I've ever experienced. It passes the diagnostics, but EVERYTHING about it is painfully slow - as it has been since the first day it arrived. Any help would be very appreciated.

I have bought   Dell Inspiron 15 i5559-4682SLV April 2016. I started to see a message that my power supply is not compatible and can not be determined then my battery is dead then the sound turned weird. I made a fresh install of Windows 10 to fix the sound drive. After a clean install, The computer has been very slow. For 3 months we stopped using it.  Can you please advise?

Hi I have the exact same issue, it was slow even before the battery error. This is unacceptable.

I also have extremely slow running on a brand new Inspiron 5565.  This Brand new Laptop is effectively unusable.

Actions taken

Shut down as many programs and tasks as possible (including virus checking)

Ran full diagnostics (almost 4 hours) no errors reported.

On an idle system Task Manager shows 100% (or late 90%) disk busy almost continuously. ‘System’ task show as major user,  Memory use varies between 20% and 40%.  CPU varies between 10% and 20%.  System remains in this state after start up and continuously thereafter.

A big concern is that many customers are reporting similar, but Dell have not posted a solution here..

I'm writing an extensive letter to the Dell corporate to see why the Dell support is not doing anything on this matter. Same issue here and I'm with i7 and SSD. Slow beyond usability and it happened at once for some reason. Checked absolutely everything, ran a hardware test everything passed.  I suspect a motherboard failure. Will never buy another Dell in future, and this company will lose again for the ignorance of their technical support.

I have had the same slow un-usable problem for three years.  My old computer finally died.  Thought I would work to make this brand new computer run reasonably fast.  No luck!  You would think Dell would offer some advice.  Their lack of advice from the reply's on this board would lead me to believe that they don't care.  My advice to everyone is to throw out your piece of **bleep** Dell computer.  Buy another brand that will support their product.  It's a shame that you buy something so slow right out of the box and they keep selling it.

I am **bleep** like the rest of you but buying and building brand loyalty with another company will be worth it.  I have been loyal to Dell buying personal and company computer, no more.

My friend bought Dell I5 in Aug 2016 & I bought in October 2016. We both bought I% but different model. Our system is very-2 slow from the first day. Even my Celeron processor 1gb ram old pc was run much faster than that. Another brand Dell i5 can save my more than $100 but I bought Dell because heard about there service & quality. And purchasing first Dell product provide there worst service & product. When asking support they provide Dell support assistance software & according to it, everything is fine. But opening menu our any app took few minute. And every time lagging too much. Spend my few month saving on trash.

And it's not just stopped here. When I discuss with few more people about it they said. Dell I5 is very slow and they also saw that problem on many other laptop Dell i5 laptops.

Thank You, Dell.

For selling me trash at the high price than your competitor who is selling a good pc at on low price.

What I learned after buying your laptop. We can sell trash if we have a big brand name.

this is it !!! i was so frustrated and almost made mind that the slowness cannot be cured till i read this.

So glad..My disk was at 100% and disabling the superfetch service made the difference. Disk IO is ~10% now and system is more responsive..

Guys try this out....

Yes I have the same model 5565 and right out of the box it is as slow as my old Pentium 2 from 20 years ago. This is a secondary laptop for my wife to basically just email, social media and browsing. She won't use it as it is slower than the 4 year old model that it replaced (should have kept that one). I'm going to try a hard reset but I am not hopeful.

Yes I have a Inspiron 5565 and right out of the box it is at least 5x slower than the 5 year old dell I had. Very very (did I say very?) frustrating. It has sat for a few months but now I am trying to do all the 'speed up' options again including reset however I do not think it will work. Since last November when new I have not been able to do even a basic task (secondary computer). In addition I purchased for a friend another Dell and it is also slow but not as bad as the 5565. I will do all the reset stuff and then next step is to ship it back to Dell. I have been a Dell customer for over 15 years and this is unacceptable. Dell should not sell products like this. Their reputation is going down the toilet with stuff like this.
