terraskye,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Do you happen to have a express card or media card in any of the slots?

I have exactly the same problem,  My Inspiron 1525 is between two and three months old, I have no USB devices connected, and no cards inserted.  The "safely remove hardware" icon - accompanied by the device-plugged-in and device-removed sounds - repeatedly pops up.

I've noticed that it only happens when I have the laptop on my lap - not when it's on a desk.  So, it seems to be caused by movement.

A problem in a batch of Inspiron's built a couple of months ago, perhaps?

I've found other people talking about this problem in the Dell community (do a search for "safely remove hardware") and a couple of solutions were suggested.

One says that a driver update will solve it (although, irritatingly, it doesn't say which driver). The second idea was to remove the little fake plastic memory card in your memory card reader (at the front of the machine).  As daft as it sounds, I've just tried it and it worked!

It seems that the laptop is trying (and failing) to read the plastic card.  Presumably the driver update mentioned elsewhere refers to a card-reader driver which solves this problem.

I hope this works for you too!
