Does the same thing happen if you boot to Safe Mode with Network Support?  If so, then it means that a program that runs from startup in normal mode is causing the problem and you will have to take steps to find out which startup program is causing the problem and then eliminate it from running at startup.

Does the same thing happen if you start Internet Explorer with no Add-ons? (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer - No Add-ons).  If so, then you will have to take steps to find out which Add-on is causing the problem and get rid of that add-on.

Try these tests and let us know the results and we can advise you from there.

Suggestions;

right click my computer, select properties/hardware/device manager.  are their any exceptions showing?

right click my network places, select properties.  look for the LAN conenction and double click.  are there any error msgs.  You can disable/enable from here but I have low confidence in that fixing anything

borrow a pc or laptop if possible and see if that has a problem.  that way you know if it is you or the network but not for certain

Sometimes network components get themselves confused.  try shutting down the PC, then any hubs or other network devices, then the router/modem.  Leave for a minute or two.  reboot the router/modem, then the hubs (if any) then the PC.

Primary software candidate is a secutiy prog.  If you are running Mcafee or Norton style security suites (and if not why not?), you can usually determine this by disabling it for a short while and seeing what happens.  Don't leave it disabled

I run your test and all I get is "windows cannot configure this wireless connection.  Also says to click "change advanced settings"  Where is this?

When I go to Dell TrueMobile WLAN Card Utility-site monitor-advanced.  I get a full breakdown of my wireless network, with all appropriate data.  I would assume that I am at least recieving. Now to get it to hookup!

I installed a Hawking USB unit and it worked for awhile and locked up.  Also have another laptop (Vista) and a desk top running on network with no problems.

More leads please.
