Lost XP Disc

I bought a Dimension 8200 3 yrs ago and need to format the HD and re-install.  However, I cannot find the XP Home Disc.  Do I need to buy a new one or would Dell provide me with a replacement?

Dell does not replace lost disks.  You're on your own to buy another.

Does the re-installation CD contain XP?  I have got the product key still.  Can you use the reinstallation cd after a format .

So what is the difference between the re-installation CD and the original XP disc and why do they thus include a separate XP disk?

The Reinstallation CD is a OEM Windows XP CD. It can be used after formatting the hard drive.

You can still try asking Dell to send you a copy of the Reinstallation CD for your system. They sent me at no cost CDs for my Dimension 4500 and Inspiron 5100.

There is no difference, you're talking about the same thing.  There is ONE disk.  It's called the Reinstallation Disk and it contains ONLY Windows XP.
