Just at thought, if you have certain pop up killers, they will block Flash animations. The one I have has an option to block it. So if you do, check your options in the Puk. Kip
Bingo! I had previously installed a free pop-up killer from Aluria Software. I didn't like it, so I used its uninstall feature. It was that evening that the Flash animation stopped working. Now, with that info, how do I get Flash to work again? I have no clue what files were erased during uninstall.
If flash works after reinstalling the pop up stopper, before trying to uninstall the latter again, make sure it is not running (again, the paid for version talks about an icon in the system tray, that gets loaded at startup; to stop that, use msconfig, startup tab, uncheck the box corresponding to the Aluria software and restart. Also check whether it has options to disable its operation with flash and read any help files or documentation about uninstall.
If you need help with using msconfig, please post. It's easy to do.
Next thing I would try (after uninstalling the popup blocker again if you don't want it), would be to remove Flash by downloading the uninstall exe from
Note that there are diffeent uninstallers for version 6 and 7. To check which version of flash you have, go to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Macromed\Flash, right click on the file flash.ocx, click properties, version tab. In Windows Explorer you may need to go tools, folder options, view tab, show hidden files and folders and uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types'.
Then try reinstall the current version (7.0.19) from
I was checking to find out if you were able to solve that flash problem because I am having a similar problem getting my flash back. I am also running Windows XP
I installed Spybot a few weeks ago and after running it whenever something required Macromedia Flash or Shockwave Flash it wasn't there. I uninstalled Spybot, reinstalled, ran the uninstall for the flash and tried reinstalling but nothing works.
If you were able to solve the problem I would really like to here from you. Never thought about the flash before but I am beginning to notice all of those big blank boxes with the little colorful one in the upper left corner.
After reinstalling, check the options in the program - is there a check box for 'Disable Flash' that you can remove?
If not, try installing SpywareBlaster (I'm more familiar with that program). Select 'Tools', and the 'Flash Killer' tab. If your popup blocker used the same method to block flash, then removing the check in this program may re-enable it.
Thanks you it worked. I now have the flash back. I already had the downloaded exe file for Spywareblaster because up until a few weeks ago that is what I used. I uninstalled to try Spybot.

Try reinstalling the Aluria software. I am not familiar with that program and could not find a reference to the free version, but
http://www.aluriasoftware.com/index.php?page_name=software&sub_name=works&title=eps&specialoffer
mentions that the paid for version affects flash

Hope this works. Since flash isn't working at present you don't risk losing anything, except perhaps your time and patience :-)
