Let me preface with the fact that I am novice at best......and that I need help with reinstallation.  I have an Inspiron E1705 w/ 80G HD, but wanted to take advantage of the 20G that Dell partitioned for backup.  While I was still under warranty they told me to reinstall XP.  I am now not under warranty and need a helping hand.

 

I reinstalled XP and it seems to have gone through just fine.  I then needed to reinstall/repair MediaDirect.  In retrospect, I should have looked at the partition table before I deleted the Backup....but I think I MAY have deleted the partition needed for MediaDirect as well as deleting the backup partition.  Being unfamiliar with the hardrive, I am unsure how the partition table should look. Because this is the case I am unclear on wether I need to reinstall MediaDirect or repair it.

 

Here is what I see on my hard drive:

 

-: Partition 1 [FAT] 47MB

C: Partition 2 [NTFS] 89150MB

E: Partition 3 [FAT32] 4754MB

unpartitoned 8MB

 

I do not want to do anything else without knowing what I am doing first!!

 

One more thing,  I tried to run the Reinstallation MediaDirect CD and it resulted in an error "Installation stopped due to an error while copying files.  Please check your system and try again".  I cannot seem to find a disc that is only for repair, the instructions w/ the MediaDirect reinstall CD say that the repair * may* be on the Drivers and Utilities disc, but I've found nothing of the sort.....

 

Any assistance would, of course, be much appreciated.
