Microsoft Support

I run a Dimension 9200

Preloaded Dell Windows Xp operating system

Upgraded to Vista Home Premium via Dell

Activated and works fine

except

Microsoft will not accept my registration key for the standard 90 day 'free' support

Microsoft say that is because my copy is  'OEM' (Dell) preloaded software.

Is there a way around this issue ?

I think OEMs do support the OS, not Microsoft, so you're stuck working with Dell.  This is probably the reason that some machine classes aren't getting their Vista upgrades.  Since Dell would have to support them, and they know there are issues, it could turn into a support nightmare.

The problem I have with Dell is that they won't just tell us this.  They just move the shipping date back and tell use that they're shipping in the order they recieve them.

Microslop told me if the software came with the PC, it's not their problem.
